Abstract: Chaos, an extremely studied area which yet unveils a huge variety of unknowns, has taken scientists for the last decades to develop different methods and approaches in order to suppress or induce its behavior in our surrounding environment. So far it is known that there are two possibilities to acquire a chaotic system:

i) Through the multiplication of variable states (as in the Lorenz or Rössler systems).

ii) By means of Piece Wise Linear Systems (as in the Chua system).

The later, commonly known as switched systems, usually base their design in switching control laws that allow them to change between their unstable equilibria in order to maintain stability in the overall system. This particularity results in a wide range of characteristics and applications. Here we will focus on three of them, presenting several advantages of the resulting systems such as: multiscrolls, multistability and data encryption.
